Fort Washita
Durant, OK 74701
Dating back to 1842, Fort Washita was overun by Confederate forces in 1861 and now stands in ruins. A ghost known as "Aunt Jane" is said to linger here, and is thought to have been beheaded by thieves or soldiers. She appears headless and dressed in a white gown, in search for the gold she once hid. Another story involves a Chickasaw Indian named Charles Colbert, who was given the remains of the fort by the Chickasaw Nation. He transformed the fort into a house for himself and 32 dogs but on the first night they moved in, all 32 dogs were gone. Charles spent the next day rounding them up, but they were gone again the next morning. He then moved away, and a doctor named Steele and his sister moved in, and reported strange things all around the property, including a headless woman. No one has lived there since.

I've been working at the Durant Intermediate School in the evenings because of the covid19 pandemic. Every night I hear strange noises where they shouldn't be, and I hear music when there's no one in the building. I always feel like someone is watching me all the time. There have been people claiming to see apparitions in the dry storage room (the old morgue). I know this place isn't in Fort Washita, but maybe someone knows how to put those spirits to rest. The school is in Durant Oklahoma.
